Foot can be divided into 3 parts -

1. Rear foot 
    Additional, extra, supplementary, subsidiary to the main thing. 

2. Mid foot
    Additional, extra, supplementary, subsidiary to the main thing.

3. Forefoot
    Additional, extra, supplementary, subsidiary to the main thing.

2. Talus

  • Connecting Tibia & Fibula (Shin)
  • Force transmittion between lower limb and foot

  • Navicular
  • Cuboid
  • Cuniform
  • Named by its shape - small on size

  

 - FOREFOOT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 

1. Metatarsal

  • Owing to its size and shape , it is named in 3 segments
  • Base: Close to rear foot , protruded
  • Shaft: In the middle
  • Head: Protruded segment - close to toes 

2. Phalanges

  • 1st phalanges -2 bones
  • Other phalanges -3 bones
  • The 1st phalanges for walking, bigger in its size
  • During walking , the lateral heel (outside) is normally first to touch the ground and the medial portion of the 1st phalange (outside - Big toe) will leave the ground last - more pressure in this area .
  • There are 2 bones under the 1st metatarsal head (sesamoid bones) - these increase the contact surface ensuring better pressure distribution .
